Breaking News: Kaduna Government Orders Arrest of Shiite Spokesperson...See Fresh Details
The government of Kaduna State has given the order for the arrest of the Islamic Group, Shiite spokesperson.
Nasir El-Rufai, governor of Kaduna State
The Kaduna State Government has ordered the arrest and prosecution of Ibrahim Musa, the spokesperson of the Shiite group, Islamic Movement of Nigeria.
Mr. Musa speaks for and signs press statements for the group which was banned by the Kaduna State Government on Friday.
Mr. Musa, after the announcement of the ban, signed a statement on behalf of the group saying the IMN would seek redress in court.
The IMN accused the Kaduna government of injustice especially as the soldiers who killed over 300 members of the group within three days in December last year had not been prosecuted.
The extrajudicial killing of the Shiites has been condemned by local and international groups including Amnesty International. The Army justified its actions by saying the Shiites blocked a major road in a plot to kill Nigeria’s Army chief, Tukur Buratai. The IMN has denied that allegation.
A panel set up the Kaduna government to investigate the crisis was boycotted by the IMN which demanded that its leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, be released first.
Mr. El-Zakzaky is still being held by the federal government without any court order.

The Kaduna State Government has ordered the arrest and subsequent prosecution of one Ibrahim Musa who has owned up to being the spokesperson of an unlawful society, the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN).
An order declaring the IMN as an unlawful society in Kaduna State went into effect on Friday, 7th October 2016. Violation of this order attracts penalty of imprisonment for seven years or a fine or both, according to sections 97a and 97b of the Penal Code.
A few hours after the commencement of the Order, the said Ibrahim Musa admitted to membership of an unlawful society and identified himself as its spokesman in widely publicized statements. This is deemed as a deliberate and determined affront to the order, and the law has to take its course.
The Commissioner of Police has been directed to ensure the arrest to enable prompt prosecution by the Kaduna State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice.
All security agencies in the state have been directed to vigorously enforce the law, and demonstrate clear resolve by arresting the said Ibrahim Musa, who is further advised to report himself to the nearest police station or any of the security agencies.
Government cannot allow the laws of the state to be wantonly tested and confronted by anyone or group who might have the mistaken belief that they are above the law.
The Kaduna State Government wishes to reiterate that it fully respects freedom of religion and other rights as guaranteed by Sections 38 and 40 of the 1999 Constitution. The same Constitution imposes an obligation on government to secure the state and protect every citizen against infringement of their rights by others.
Drawing on powers vested by Section 45(1) of the Constitution, and Section 97a of the Penal Code, the governor signed an order declaring the IMN as an unlawful society in the interest of public order and to protect the rights and freedoms of all persons in Kaduna State.
More Trouble for Saraki and Ekweremadu as FG Prepares to File Fresh Charges on Them Individually
The Federal Government is reportedly set to file fresh charges against the leadership of the Nigerian Senate.
Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu
It has been revealed that the federal government will charge the two Senate leaders, Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekeremadu individually as opposed to the previous one where they were jointly docked.
According to Vanguard, a top Justice Ministry official revealed last night that the case was primarily withdrawn because the Nigeria Police Force, handling the case, was yet to conclude its investigation.
In fact, as the source pointed out, the NPF is yet to interrogate Saraki and Ekweremadu and other officials of the National Assembly said to have masterminded the forgery of the Senate
Rules used in conducting the inauguration of the 8th NASS.
“You can see that under the Criminal Justice Act, the statement of the accused persons and all the witnesses are expected to be filed and it would have been wrong to have pressed ahead with the case when the police are yet to conclude their investigations,” the MoJ official pointed out.
“The federal government considered it appropriate to withdraw the case and conclude the investigation and attach both the statements by the accused and the witnesses before filing fresh charges against the suspects.
“We want to strengthen our position and present a solid case against the suspects as required under the Criminal Justice Administration Act,” the official told Vanguard.
However when contacted, the Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami, confirmed that a fresh charge would only be pressed against the suspects when the government was ready and declined to say.
“I will get back to you on the matter when we are ready,” Malami said.
The fresh determination by the government to file charges against the Senate gladiators, appears to have short lived their celebration of the initial abrogation of the charges filed against them.
The withdrawal of the charges had elicited nationwide commentary, fuelling speculations that the Presidency, fingered as the arrowhead of the case, had opted to make peace with the NASS leadership, which it fell out with as a result of their emergence last year.
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, APC National Leader, Asiwaju Tinubu and other Nigerian leaders promptly lauded the move once it was announced.
But the optimism of the leaders appears to have been shortlived with the plan to slam the Senators with fresh charges.
Revealed: 3 Times the FBI Arrested 'Corrupt' Court Judges in US, Just Like the DSS Did in Nigeria
A cursory check of possible instances have shown that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) 'the closest thing to Nigeria's DSS' had a history of arresting court judges just like the DSS are doing in Nigeria.
The DSS raided the homes of some judges across country, claiming it recovered huge wads from them. The secret police arrested some of them.
Some of the judges the DSS arrested are Adeniyi Ademola and Nnamdi Dimgba (federal high court), and Slyvester Ngwuta and John Okoro (supreme court).
Ademola is the judge handling the trial of Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser (NSA), who is being prosecuted by the DSS for alleged illegal possession of firearms and money laundering.
The judge has been critical of the DSS owing its refusal to release Dasuki after he had granted him bail.
Dimgba has also criticised the DSS for its high-handedness.
The DSS claims it is on a mission to sanitise the judiciary.
A debate now rages over the propriety of their action.
But here are three instances from the world’s “greatest democracy”.
JANUARY 2013
On January 31, 2013, the FBI arrested nine judges for “conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud, wire fraud, mail fraud, perjury, making false statements to the FBI, and aiding and abetting”.One of the judges, Willie Singletary, was seen in a video meeting with a motorcycle club called the Philadelphia First State Road Rattlers, saying: “There’s going to be a basket going around because I’m running for Traffic Court judge, right, and I need some money. I got some stuff that I got to do, but if you all can give me $20 you’re going to need me in Traffic Court. Am I right about that? … Now you all want me to get there, you’re all going to need my hook-up, right?”
Some of the accused judges — who were on the bench between 2008 and 2011 — are William Hird and Michael Sullivan.
They faced hundreds of years in prison.
NOVEMBER 2015
On November 4, 2015, the agency arrested a superior North Carolina court judge for bribery and corruption. The judge, Arnold Jones II allegedly attempted to bribe an FBI agent for information on what he described as a “family matter.” He faced about 37 years in jail.
Prosecutors said he approached the unidentified FBI officer in October 2015, and the two subsequently met in Goldsboro to exchange $100 for a disk supposedly containing the text messages.
Jones initially offered to give the officer “a couple cases of beer” for his help but later agreed to $100 in cash.
MAY 2014
Also, on May 30, 2014, it arrested a superior Puerto Rico court judge for bribery.Manuel Acevedo Hernandez, the judge, was accused of accepting bribes to pervert the cause of justice in a fatal drunk-driving case. He was detained at his home after the FBI concluded its investigation.
The 62-year-old was detained at his home in the northwestern coastal town of Aguadilla.
The indictment also charges that the judge agreed to acquit Lutgardo Acevedo Lopez, a certified public accountant, in exchange for help in being promoted to appellate judge and to find employment for two of relatives.
“In my 35 years of experience, I’ve never seen anything like this,” US Attorney Rosa Emilia Rodriguez said at the time.
The judge pleaded not guilty and received a $50,000 bail.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police to be Sanctioned for Aiding Governor Wike
The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State is currently under pressure for aligning with Governor Wike in preventing the arrest of a judge by DSS.
Governor Nyesom Wike
The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, Mr. Francis Odesanya, is under fire for his role in the aborted arrest of a judge of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, in the early hours of Saturday, the Punch learnt on Sunday.
News emerged on Saturday morning that Wike alongside some 'thugs' acted on a tip off to block off the men of the secret service from arresting a judge suspected to be corrupt.
The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, was said to have rushed to No. 35, Forces Avenue, the GRA official residence of the judge and prevented operatives of the Department of State Services from arresting the judge.
Wike, who was said to have had a confrontation with the DSS officials, was said to have been joined at the scene by the police commissioner.
A highly-placed source, who spoke to The PUNCH on condition of anonymity, on Sunday, said preliminary report had shown that Odesanya prevented the security agencies from carrying out a legitimate order.
Based on the report, he said the police authorities as well as the Police Service Commission would sanction the police boss. He, however, did not disclose the kind of punishment to be meted out to him.
The source stated, “The Rivers Commissioner of Police will be dealt with appropriately. It has been established that the DSS officials who were at the judge’s residence had with them duly signed search and arrest warrants.
“By stopping the security agents from doing their work, what he did was to obstruct justice. He stopped those people from carrying out a legitimate order.
“He will be sanctioned accordingly.”
The Public Relations Officer, Rivers State Command, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, had told journalists that policemen were only at the judge’s residence to ensure there was no breakdown of law and order.

Buhari and Dasuki are In-laws...See Shocking Details
It has been revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari and Sambo Dasuki are real in-laws which dates back to many decades even after the controversy that has seen the former locked up in prison over corruption charges.
Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser (NSA) and President Muhammadu Buhari
According to details released by John Paden, the official biographer of President Muhammadu Buhari, it has been revealed that Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser (NSA) and Buhari have been in-laws for over four decades.
Dasuki, who is facing multiple charges of corruption at a federal capital territory (FCT) high court, once alleged that his prosecution and detention by the government was as a result of an old grudge Buhari had against him.
Writing in the book ‘Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria,’ Paden, a professor of international studies, revealed that the families of Buhari and Dasuki had been linked by marriage for more than four decades.
“It is beyond the scope of this study to assess all the backstories of the relationship between Buhari and Dasuki. Suffice it to say that the so-called grudge between the two has never really existed,” Paden wrote in chapter 15, page 148 of the book.
“Dasuki is 12 years younger than Buhari, even though Dasuki did participate in the 1985 countercoup. The family of Ibrahim Dasuki and the Buhari extended family have been linked by marriage for more than four decades.
“In addition, in his inaugural address, Buhari had professed that although, ‘the past is prologue,’ he had no time to pursue alleged ‘enemies.’
“Yet the real story has little to do with personal or political relationships. As noted throughout this study, Buhari has a strong belief in right and wrong. He has an abiding respect for the Nigerian military as an institution that can help hold Nigeria together.”
Paden stated that Buhari’s preoccupation was confronting corruption in the military because it threatens the survival of the country.
“From Buhari perspective, if corruption in military procurement undermines the integrity of the military, that corruption must be confronted. And if such procurement allegations weaken the military response to Boko Haram and put ordinary foot soldiers at risk, that corruption poses a double threat, endangering even the Nigeria project itself,” he wrote.
