Liverpool overcame Aston Villa with a 3-2 win in a thriller at Anfield. Liverpool went ahead inside 55 seconds as James Milner netted against his old club; the midfielder hammered a shot from the edge of the box after Phillipe Coutinho's pass. Daniel Sturridge then got himself on the scoresheet for the first time since his return from injury with a wonderful volley in the 57th minute. Rudy Gestede got one back, but Sturridge struck again within a few minutes. Villa would not lie down though, as Gestede's bullet header found the back of the net with 20 minutes left, but they could not force the equaliser.
