The great-granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi has appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court for allegedly defrauding a businessman of R6.2 million.

Ashish Lata Ramgobin‚ a self-employed mother of two‚ allegedly requested the money from SR Maharaj to clear port customs for a container but the capital was used for another purpose.
The Hawks said in a statement that the 45-year-old was arrested on Thursday for allegedly defrauding two businessmen of R11-million.
She allegedly told the men that she had won a tender to supply linen to two private hospitals and needed a cash injection to clear the containers carrying the bedding.
The court heard on Monday that while there was only one charge against Ramgobin‚ police were investigating a second complaint against her.
She was released on R50,000 bail.
A statement by Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi at the weekend did not name Ramgobin‚ but said the “great-granddaughter of a former global human rights activist” was to appear in court on Monday “for allegedly stealing more that R11-million from two prominent Durban businessmen”
