A re-enactment of one of the most famous shootouts in the history of the American Wild West turned dangerous on Sunday when an actor accidentally shot himself in Arizona during a gunfight scene near the "OK Corral", the Daily Mail reported.
The Cochise County Sheriff's office said the actor shot himself in the thigh near the OK Corral. He was re-enacting the duel between Mexican outlaw Filemeno Orante and the Cochise County deputy sheriff Kiv Phillips, Jeff Miller told the New York Daily News.
The unnamed actor was playing the sheriff when he shot himself in the groin and was airlifted to a Tucson hospital, authorities said. His condition is not known.
It's not clear how a real bullet made its way into the actor's pistol, but the group is taking measures to ensure this doesn't happen again.
"We've been doing this since 1947, and we've never had an incident before," Miller told the New York Daily News.
"We have strict rules about that, so we're not sure how this happened. It's not something we take lightly."
Miller said the group's armourer checked each gun before every show to make sure there was no ammunition inside.
The misfiring is being investigated by the Tombstone Marshall's Office.
