Dubious Estate Agent Docked Over Alleged N28m Scam

A notorious estate agent who specializes in duping unsuspecting victims has been arrested and arraigned by the police. 


 
A ‎42-year-old estate agent, Olusegun Akogun, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over alleged theft of N28 million.
 
Akogun, of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
 
The prosecutor, Cyracus Osuji, told the court that the defendant and others at large, committed the offence on May 25. Osuji said that the accused at about 1p.m. at Banana Island in Ikoyi area of Lagos State stole the said money from the complainant, one Lydia Donnelly.
 
He said that the money which was collected in cash by the accused was meant to purchase a property for the complainant, but he diverted it to personal use. According to him, the offences are punishable under Sections 409 and 285 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
 
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
 
The Magistrate, Mrs Olanike Olagbende, granted the accused bail in the sum of N2.8 million with two sureties in like sum. Olagbende ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the accused and must show evidence of tax payment as well as possessing landed property in Lagos.
 
The case was adjourned till Nov. 20 for mention.
