The Durban Flying Squad Narcotics Task Team is expected to make more arrests after arresting a 30-year-old woman in possession of 48kg of cocaine in a downtown flat.
Police seized the haul and R701‚000 cash from her flat in the CBD.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman Lt-Col Thulani Zwane said police had been conducting their crime prevention duties around 9.18pm on Friday when they followed up on information about drugs.
They were directed to a flat where they found 48kg of cocaine powder with a street value of R3 million and arrested the suspect.
Zwane said the team would continue in the fight against drugs.
“We also appeal to the community to continue working together with the police in fighting drugs in the province‚” he said.
The woman will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
In another incident‚ a 20-year-old woman‚ was arrested by the Hawks on Tuesday at the Oribi Toll Plaza near Port Shepstone after she was found in possession of dagga weighing 3kg.
The dagga was stuffed in her luggage and she was travelling on public transport from Durban to the Eastern Cape.
She appeared in court on Wednesday‚ but KZN Hawks spokesman Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo said her matter had been postponed to September 1.
“Recently‚ five suspects were also arrested in different occasions for possession of dagga after information was received that they were trafficking dagga from Eastern Cape to KwaZulu-Natal. They have appeared before the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court and are out on bail‚” said Mhlongo.
