Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema said he was happy with the results of the meeting with Thabo Mbeki at the former president's Houghton home on Monday.
"We are leaving here confident that the issues raised with him will convince him to do the right thing on August 3," Malema told reporters outside Mbeki's home.
Malema said they introduced the leadership of the EFF and spoke about the elections.
"We came to ask him to vote for the EFF, because we do the same with everyone else," Malema said.
The party's national spokesman Mbuyiseni Ndlozi said the EFF was on a door-to-door mission when he dropped in on Mbeki.
"We met with the former president to officially introduce the EFF leadership to him and we were warmly welcomed in his home. However he made it clear to us that his vote is a secret‚" Ndlozi said.
He added that the EFF had progressive conversations with the former president but refused to say if the former president was at all interested in joining the red berets.
Mbeki has been fairly quiet when it comes to campaigning ahead of the elections. He has not commented on the meeting with Malema.
