13-year-old Mpumalanga boy allegedly kills 12-year-old fellow pupil

A 13-year-old Grade 6 pupil accused of stabbing a 12-year-old Grade 5 pupil to death has been released into the custody of his parents.

On Tuesday, Mpumalanga police spokesman Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said the incident happened at Khul'ufunde Primary School in Kwaggafontein on yesterday.
"We have arrested a 13-year-old boy who is doing Grade 6 in connection with the murder of a 12-year-old fellow pupil at Khul'ufunde Primary School. What we got is that the boys had an argument over the weekend, however, their fight carried over to the school yesterday, where the 13-year-old withdrew an okapi knife and stabbed the victim on the chest," said Mohlala.
Mohlala said the 12-year-old was rushed to a local clinic, where he succumbed to his chest injuries.
"We have released the suspect to the custody of his mother. For now we are to send him to social workers and his docket will sent to court so that he appears. At the moment we can't say when he will be appearing in court, but can add that as police we are very disturbed by the incident. We are appealing to parents to monitor their children and inspect them to make sure they do not bring weapons at schools," said Mohlala.
Attempts to get comment from the provincial education department drew a blank as spokesman Jasper Zwane was not answering his phone. - African Eye News Service
